Introduction
- Meeting starts at 15:05.
Newcastle ticketing
- The Newcastle trip will take place on Saturday 14th March.
- The PrideSoc collaboration trip will be announced after the Newcastle trip takes place.
- The committee agreed to stagger the advertising of the trip, with members notified first through the newsletter and a Discord announcement, and others becoming aware when the trip is shared on social media about a week later.
- This also means that tickets can be advertised while still giving Jamie time to put together a graphic for social media.
- The committee decided against making two ticket types on the EUSA page (e.g., members/non-members), instead opting to sell only one type of ticket available to everyone, as this simplifies inventory management.
- Seb will submit a EUSA product request and schedule the tickets to go on sale on Monday, 23 February 2026.
- Seb will start working on the newsletter, to go out at the start of that week.
- Seb holds the tickets currently. They will be distributed to members on the morning of the trip following presentation of a student card or purchase confirmation email from EUSA.
February/March social idea
- Will noted that board game socials go down well with members, and reached out to a friend in the CompSoc committee which also organises regular board game socials for a potential collaboration. While we didn't choose to hold a board game social this time, the collaboration remains open for a future social.
- Sam noted that we haven't held our annual RailSoc quiz yet this year and was interested in putting together and hosting this year's instalment. The committee were very happy for them to do this.
- There was some talk of other committee members contributing sections as has been the case in previous years (e.g., model railway trivia and Gaelic station names), although an outline for the quiz sections was not discussed at this meeting.
- A quiz night will be hosted on Monday, 2nd March, evening, in Pleasance so that drinks are available from the bar.
- Seb will make a room booking.
CURC collaboration
- Cambridge University Railway Club reached out by email to gauge interest in a joint challenge between railway societies across the UK.
- The challenge would be held in London in the summer, outside of term-time.
- The committee noted that there might not be much participation from Edinburgh RailSoc given that we are nowhere near London, but agreed to promote the event to our members.
- Liam will let CURC know that we are interested but mention distance and that we can't guarantee a team will be able to attend.
- The event may be mentioned in the Discord server but is unlikely to be as heavily advertised as much as usual society events.
Discord advertisements channel
- Sam suggested that the Discord server contain an advertisements/classifieds channel that members can share what they're working on. For example, for news from the committee of the recently-formed Jet Lag society, but also for other things people have made and want to advertise.
- The committee are happy to make this channel and will post a small Discord announcement to let members know.
- The committee noted that because it's its own channel, uninterested members can mute the channel if they don't want to receive notifications.
- The meeting ends at 16:06.
