Newsletter — October 2024
Hello, and welcome to the Edinburgh University Railway Society!
We decided it was probably about time to make use of our mailing list, so here's some announcements regarding our events over the next two weeks.
This Friday, the 11th of October at 20:15 we are hosting our very own Board Game Social!
This will take place in the Munro Room at Pleasance and we encourage you to bring your own (loosely) transport themed board games that you might want to play☺ Come along and join a game!
If you haven't been to a Railsoc event before it should be a good way to get to meet the committe and other society members ahead of our October trip to the Scottish Borders, detailed below ↓
Saturday the 19th of October is the date that we'll be heading to the green growths of Melrose and Galshiels in the Scottish Borders:
Our plan includes a fair bit of walking, so make sure to wear appropriate footwear. Once we've arrived at Tweedbank station we'll follow the river to Melrose village, have a spot of lunch and explore, and then continue on our way to a disused railway viaduct. Finally, we'll take the bus back to Galashiels, have a gander and then take the train back to Edinburgh.
The meeting location is in Waverley Station at the central column on the concourse between Costa and Pret at 10:45. The aim is to return back to Edinburgh for about 17:30.
Train tickets for this trip are expected to be £9.00 return with a railcard or £13.50 return without one. Bus tickets are either free if you're eligible or £2.00. Train tickets can be bought either online (app or website) or in the station on the day - we usually leave a gap of half an hour between the meet up time and the departure of the train to allow for this (and latecomers).
Hope to see you there!
In other news...
Help prevent ScotRail from reinstating peak fares! A group of students from across Scotland have created a student petition. The goal is to prevent Scottish Railways from reintroducing higher ticket prices during busier hours, which have a high financial impact on those who have no choice but to commute during these times.

Thank you all for reading, and we look forward to seeing you on the rails (and our events!)
